Character Application

The Ordinary
Name: Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear
Age: 21
Canon, Type, and Point: Tales of the Abyss. Original Universe. Game canon. Shortly after the epilogue - if they were going to honor Luke's 20th birthday, she'd be 21 as she's a year older than him.

Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear was born as Meryl Oakland, daughter to Badaq and Sylvia Oakland. However, a few days following her birth, the crown princess, Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear, was stillborn. Meryl's grandmother, a maid for the queen, gave the queen her granddaughter, and thus Meryl became Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear.

The young faerie-tale princess grew up unaware of her situation, as only a few people disconnected from Kimlasca knew about the situation. She also grew up aware that her marriage was already arranged, that she would eventually wed Luke fon Fabre as they became the King and Queen of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. She grew up loving him because of this arrangement. However, when she was 11 years old, Luke was kidnapped and when he returned, was an amnesiac... or so everyone thought. Because of this, Natalia tried to make this new Luke live up to her expectations of the old Luke.

Natalia grew up in the castle, but she was allowed access outside of the castle every so often for public events; she proved popular with the people of Kimlasca especially as she worked with her responbilities to fund hospitals and other programs to help those in need. However, despite this, she is still rather naive to the true suffering of the people not only in the slums, but also those outside of Baticul.

During the events of Tales of the Abyss, quite a few things happened to Natalia; first off, she saw the suffering in Akzeriuth, and how powerless countries with tense relationships really are in helping the needy. She also, rather shockingly, found out that she wasn't the real princess, which turned out to be a major psychological blow to her mind. Because of this, her father, King Ingobert, distanced himself from her and she was on the run from both her kingdom and the Order of Lorelei for "attempting to usurp the throne by impersonating a member of the imperial family". Needless to say, that wasn't much fun.

What made things worse was that she also found out about Luke being a replica, which made her torn between the replica Luke and the original Luke, now called Asch.

Eventually, however, she came to terms that she is who she is, and blood had nothing to do with whether she was the princess of Kimlasca or not or her father's daughter, and was also able to come to terms with the fact that Luke is Luke, and Asch is Asch.

Race: Human.
Personality:
The first impression most players get of Natalia is that she's a bitch. This is, unfortunately, not completely unfounded as when she's first introduced she comes off very strongly, ordering Luke and Guy around as well as insulting Tear, thinking she's a servant girl. However, luckily, within an hour of first meeting her and clearing the first dungeon with her as an official party member, Natalia completely does a 180 when Tear saves her life from a monster and begins to show a more compassionate side - unfortunately, most players remember that first hour and base their entire experience of Natalia off of that. Yet Luke is a bitch for the first fifteen hours of game play and everyone loves him. I don't even know.

Natalia is a princess; her demeanor is that of one and her mannerisms reflect her status. Though she does have a kinder side to her, her naivete and blindness to true poverty often times makes her seem aloof and detached from those who are drastically different from herself. A lot of which defines her, in her mind, is her status as a princess; she's there to serve the people, and therefore will do everything in her power to try to help those in need, even if she doesn't always go about it in the most direct way possible. She is also fairly adamant about having people act as if they belong to their position and rank; she was seem constantly chiding Luke for not acting the part of the next in line for the throne as her fiancee, for example.

More than that, a good majority of what makes her personality are her relationships with Luke, Asch, and her father. With Luke, she feels a certain kinship from being in similar situations (such as her not being the true princess, and him not being the real Luke). With Asch, she feels the promise they made, and also loves him for who he is despite all that's happened, and feels his loneliness. As for King Ingobert, she realized that even if they're not connected by blood, they are still father and daughter from the memories they share together.

Aside from all of that, there is something very pure about Natalia's concern for her people, even if her idea of being on the battlefield was appearing before soldiers on a morale boosting event; in Akzeriuth, while attempting to help those in need when Luke was telling her she might catch something, she admonishes him wondering what she could catch by helping the person in need. She treats several people with respect, an aspect of her which enabled her to learn a few artes from the blind master of Lanvaldear-style archery. When she's escaping execution from Baticul, the people form a protective wall around her because she's the one who funded hospitals and jobs for the people, taking her duty to improve the country seriously.

One major flaw/weakness with Natalia's personality has to do with her codependence - as said before, the three major relationships she has throughout the story are with her father, Luke, and Asch. While Natalia comes off strongly, this is easily shattered when one of those core relationships she holds dearly are shaken - when her father denounced her as his daughter, Natalia is shown to be upset and doubting herself, her position, and duties as the princess. When Asch enters the picture and his truth revealed, Natalia is shown to throw a lot of what she holds dear to the wind in order to even be close to him.

From the point where I'm taking her, Natalia is suffering from busying herself up in order to distract herself from the reality that Luke and Asch are gone from her life, forever. By immersing herself into the world of politics between Kimlasca, Malkuth, and Daath, she has distracted herself with visits and paperwork to the extent where if she took a beat to rest, she'd slip back into a melancholy.

Natalia cannot cook worth anything, to the extent where she'll try to cast Heal on burnt food in order to try to fix it.

Special Abilities:
Natalia has shown a high amount of charisma and is well-liked by the people she serves as the princess for good reason - she values making her kingdom beautiful not only to outsiders, but from within as well. She is well versed in manners and a regal bearing, and knows how to live in high society - this probably includes dancing and studying a bit of music as well. It can also be assumed that she is highly educated, and also forced herself onto Luke as his tutor.

Combat Capabilities:
Natalia Artes @ Aselia Wikia
Natalia in her canon is a Seventh Fonist, and therefore is able to use healing artes to replenish health and status, as well as buffs and debuffs; she has no offensive fonic artes. She is also a master of Lanvaldear-style archery. Unlike Tear, who focuses more on fonic artes and multiple-target healing artes, Natalia focuses on powerful single-target healing artes and supporting from the back by pummeling her opponents with her arrows.

All of her archery-based artes will be of the Piercing quality. Natalia is also able to use Field of Fonons - if an area is saturated with a type of elemental energy, it will transform one of her artes into a more powerful form.

Her fonic artes will either be healing or Mind, given her support role in combat.

Base Artes
Piercing Line - Turns into Voltaic Line when exposed to wind, lightning, or light energy. Voltaic Line then deals additional wind damage.
Storm Edge - Turns into Blast Edge when exposed to fire or light energy. Blast Edge deals additional fire damage.
Aerial Laser - Turns into Astral Laser when exposed to wind, lightning, or light energy. Deal non-elemental piercing damage.
Cavalry - Turn into Phalanx when exposed to fire or light energy. Prevents staggering. Mind. Phalanx lasts three times as long.

Arcane Artes
Star Stroke - Turns into Quake Stroke when exposed to earth or dark energy. Quake Stroke deals earth-elemental damage.
Star Embrace - Turns into Blue Embrace when exposed to water, ice, or dark energy. Blue Embrace deals water damage.
Gallant Barrage - Fan out arrows, then concentrate a barrage.

Mid-Level Fonic Artes
Heal - Becomes Healing Wind with wind or light energy.
Barrier - Becomes Aqua Protection with water, ice, or dark energy. Adds temporary physical resistance.
Recover - Becomes Purify with wind or light energy. Cleanses status effects.
Sharpness - Becomes Blaze Emitter with fire or light energy. Raises physical attack strength.
Resist - Becomes Anti-Magic with earth and dark energy. Raises magical resistance.
Scare Shot - Becomes Calamitous Bane with water or dark energy. Decreases a target's physical defense and attack.

High-Level Fonic Artes
Cure - Becomes Restore with earth or dark energy. Heals wounds, and Restore also cures status effects.
Revive - Becomes Angel's Breath with earth or dark energy. Allows an ally to recover from KO once. Angel's Breath has an AoE.
Healing Force - Basically casts Regen on an area.

Mystic Artes
Astral Rain - Rains arrows down onto an area of enemies. Physical/Piercing.
Noble Roar - Blasts enemies with giant spheres of energy. Almighty.

Due to the Fon Belt halting its revolution, obviously all of her fonic artes will be nerfed and her strike artes will be a bit less effective since they can't rely too much on elemental/fonic energy. The arrows will still hurt, but are only infused with elemental energy if Natalia can find a field of energy that she can utilize in augmenting her artes.

COMP: Natalia's COMP is in the shape of an orange cheagle head with a black star on the side.
Anything Else: N/A

The Extraordinary
Primary Arcana: The Star
Secondary Arcana: The Hanged Man
Initial Persona: Star of Ispania
The Star of Ispania is an in-game mythological figure in Tales of the Abyss. In the country of Ispania, which was eventually absorbed into the Kingdom of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, the stories of the Star of Ispania spread far and wide into books. She is a noble Lady Thief (with big boobs) who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, much like a female version of Robin Hood.
Ultimate Persona: N/A
Persona Acquisition Method: She will be given access to it when she comes into Sardenia by Philemon. Given that she's at the end of her canon, her character development is more or less complete so any Shadow she faces now would be pretty boring.
Capabilities: The Star of Ispania takes over many of Natalia's healing, recovery, and support artes. Natalia is her canon's secondary healer - instead of focusing on healing an entire party, Natalia's abilities focus more on single-target healing and buffing, which reflects in Star of Ispania's skill set.

Given this, Natalia's combat with her Persona does not change her usual fighting style very much. Her physical artes are done on her own with her bow and arrows, and her recovery artes are taken care of with her Persona.

Social Link Effects: Anybody who Social Links with Natalia can expect to have access to many of her recovery abilities. In the other way around, Natalia would do well to know people who have access to elemental abilities, so she may utilize her Field of Fonons artes.
